Keep our buses public

Keep our buses public

  • 20 November 2019 | Marjorie O'Neill MP, Member for Coogee, addressed Parliament protesting the privatisation of our Eastern Suburbs buses. Marjorie created a petition to collect 10,000 signatures required to force a debate in Parliament.
  • 14 December 2019 | Local politicians Michael Daley and Matt Thistlethwaite attended and addressed the Save our Buses Rally at High Cross Park Randwick. The rally coincided with the opening of the South East Light rail line from Sydney City to Randwick. Residents and local politicians rallied against the privatisation sell-off of Eastern Suburbs bus routes by the Liberal State Government.
  • 4 March 2020 | Following the leaking of a draft policy document marked 'Sensitive', Michael Daley addressed Parliament to protest the potential for Gladys Berejiklian and the Liberals to cancel most of the buses servicing this electorate: 302, 314, 317, 373, 376, 377, 393, 394, 395, 397, 399, L94, 891, 893, M50 and M10 to force public transport users to catch the light rail. During his address, Michael emplasised that the message from our community is loud and clear: leave our buses alone!

In addition, the proposed privatisation of Eastern Suburbs buses clearly illustrates that the Premier has lied to the people of NSW on three key issues:

  1. that the government would not privatise any more public assets
  2. that the government would increase bus services to the Eastern Suburbs
  3. that the government would bring back the 378 bus, a service that they themselves cut.

This government has back-flipped on poor decisions before. The campaign to to hold the Berejiklian Government to account on their pre-election promises and to save Eastern Suburbs buses from privatisation continues.
